I met you unexpectedly at the Book Case in Wayzata two weeks ago. I read your book in less than a week and wanted to thank you for the opportunity and give you positive feedback. For a first novel you must be thrilled with the outcome. Your experience intrigues me and gives me courage to write my own book some day. Jim is a versatile writer, able to appeal to readers with diverse interests. Jim aptly describes the weather and terrain of northern Minnesota so that you feel you are there, and at the same time, has the ability to develop his characters so in-depth and with such clarity that you feel you know them in a personal way. His knowledge of the Native American people and customs, combined with his skill in developing a plot combining organized crime and political intrigue, makes for a book that will keep you "hooked" until the end and will have you cheering for the triumph of good over evil.
As we enjoy Jim Proebstle's first book In the Absence of Honor, we only hope the second book of this talented author is not far behind."

"It amazes me that this is a first novel. The characters, plot and setting are completely original. The pace of the story never gets bogged down with unnecessary detail. The most difficult thing to write for a new novelist is dialog and this is very well done here - you can almost hear Alex Minor's gravely voice or Big Lights enthusiasm. The ending is very satisfying. Sometimes we have to give up everything we have to get what we really need.
I would like to read more when another book is written.
